Checking for Cookies / JavaScript


Checking with Microsoft Internet Explorer

Version 6.x

  • Select "Tools | Internet Options..." from the tool bar on the browser.
  • Select the "Privacy" tab
    • Adjust the privacy slider control on the left to no higher than the "medium" setting.
    • Click the "Advanced" button.
    • On the Advanced screen, click the checkbox to "Override automatic cookie handling"
    • Next, click the radio button to "Accept 1st party cookies", then click the checkbox to "Always allow session cookies".
    • Click "OK"
  • Next, select the "Advanced" tab.
    • Scroll to the "Security" section.
    • Make sure that "Use SSL 2.0" and "Use SSL 3.0" are checked.
  • Next, select the "General" tab.
    • Click on the "Settings" button in the "Temporary Internet Files" section.
    • Under "Check for newer versions of stored pages:", select "Every visit to the page".
    • Click "OK"
  • Click "OK"

Version 5.x

  • Click on "Tools" from the browser's menu
  • Select the option "Internet Options"
  • Choose the tab on top labeled "Security"
  • Select the "Internet" content zone from the top panel
  • Click the "Custom Level" button
  • Scroll down to the "Cookies"
  • Under "Allow cookies that are stored on your computer" select either "Enable" to automatically accept them, or "Prompt" if you wish to be asked prior to accepting them
  • Continue to scroll down to "Java"
  • If "Disable" is checked, select either "High", "Low" or "Medium" security. The default level is generally "Medium" and should be left if checked

Version 4.x

  • Click on "View" from the browser's menu
  • Select the option "Internet Options"
  • Choose the tab on top labeled "Advanced"
  • Scroll down to the section entitled "Security"
  • Under the subtitle "Cookies" you can choose either "Always accept cookies"
  • or "Prompt before accepting cookies". (Select the latter of the two if you want the browser to inform you before it accepts a cookie on this and other sites.)
  • just below are the settings for "Java VM". The "Java JIT compiler enabled" should be selected.


Checking with Netscape Communicator 4.0+

  • Click on "Edit" from the browser's menu
  • Select the option "Preferences"
  • Click on the last option titled "Advanced"
  • On the right, choose "Enable Java"
  • On the right, choose "Accept all cookies"
  • In addition to this, if you want the browser to inform you before it accepts a cookie on this and other sites, click on "Warn me before accepting a cookie".
